Donna L. Hollander has been a practicing visual artist for the past 47 years.

A native to Los Angeles, California, Donna has been living in Whittier for the last 28 years.

During my undergraduate studies I was a commercial production potter.
Having accomplished my Masters in 1984, I taught Sculpture for 4 years, both stone sculpting and life sculpture, at Orange Coast College.

Then I worked as a mannequin sculptor in the Visual Merchandising industry, directing teams of professional and union sculptors in producing large pieces of commercial sculpture.  Clients included Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, Warner Brothers, Disney, Nordstrom’s and other large department stores.

In 1994 I married John Young, an industrial designer. Together we developed a successful line of giftwares incorporating our diverse and mutual skill-sets.

I have taught drawing, painting, sculpture, and mosaic to children as young as 5 and adults as old as 70.

In 1999 I started making mosaics.

I do drawings as well, using artist crayons & pencils on an Icarus Board which has a glass surface with heating elements underneath that allow the medium to melt and blend so it has the effect of being a painting, allowing me to “push color around”.

 I feel:
"Mosaic is a metaphor for how inspirations come: shiny bits and pieces, here and there. Using dichroic glass brings a level of magic to my work. Mosaic is eye candy, colorful and fluid. It's sculpting with color. It's any material you want to use. It's ancient and never gets old. It's permanent. It marks time".
